The Komodo Airport is a small domestic airport providing air access to Flores, the Komodo Island and surrounding area. The airport's name comes from its location in the Komodo subdistrict (kecamatan) of the West Manggarai Regency, one of the six regencies on the island of Flores. It was formerly known as Mutiara II Airport, not to be confused with Mutiara Airport located near the city of Palu in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province. It is set among the hills surrounded by nature.
The airport has only one short landing strip so only small planes can land and take off. Most of the passengers who use this airport are tourist heading for Komodo Island.
The Komodo Airport (LBJ) is just 1,5km from the Labuan Bajo village. Hotels and dive shops will meet flights and offer free lifts. A private taxi to town costs Rp 30,000.
